In the EU funded research project EconWelfare (www.econwelfare.eu) the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) has compiled a database of animal welfare initiatives in Europe. Altogether 84 initiatives from DE, ES, IT, NL, SE, PL, UK and Macedonia were clustered and analysed with regard to their main goals, instruments used, major actors and success factors , taking account of national differences. The assessment of these initiatives showed that some actor networks (often organic farming standards schemes) are successfully aiming at multiple goals (including labelling), using different policy instruments by involving broader networks, whereas a majority of initiatives are focussing on single goals using smaller networks. Focus groups of value concepts of producers: National Report Switzerland Organic Eprints

The Organic Revision project was funded by the EU with the aim of supporting the further development of the EU Regulation 2092/91 on organic production. As part of the project focus groups were run in five European countries on value concepts of organic producers and other stakeholders, during 2004-2005. The project aims to provide an overview of values held among organic stakeholders, and of similarities and differences among the various national and private organic standards. Organic farming values in Switzerland – results of a focus group study Organic Eprints

Eight focus group discussions, conducted in 2004 and 2005, about ethical values among established and recently converted organic producers (mountain and lowland area) and other stakeholders in Switzerland are summarised. The aim was to contrib-ute to the elaboration of principles for the new EU regulation for organic food and farming as part of the EU Organic-Revision project. The participants’ values were contrasted with the four new principles of organic production of IFOAM (International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements). Warum habe ich auf Biolandbau umgestellt? Welches sind die Motive, dass ich dabei geblieben bin und mich in der Biobewegung engagiere? Letzten Winter diskutierten über 50 Personen aus der Biobewegung ihre Grundwerte, die sie mit dem Biolandbau verbinden. Ähnliche Gesprächsrunden fanden auch in verschiedenen Ländern der EU statt.
